Painting Le Petit Chateau
Some wedding venues simply ask to be painted, and Le Petit Chateau is one of them. In this painting I captured the pink building with its golden thatched roof, the carved wooden double doors between two glowing lanterns, the palms, topiary and lavender, and the two blue benches facing each other across the garden.
How I Painted It
I start every painting with a fine-line pen sketch, drawing the curve of the thatch, the tall brick chimney and the pattern of the carved doors. Then I build up the colour in layers of Winsor & Newton watercolour: warm pinks for the walls, golden ochre for the thatch, and deep greens for the trees and hedges. It's a real watercolour painting, done by hand on cotton cold press watercolour paper.
The Perfect Paper Anniversary Gift
In the UK, the first wedding anniversary is traditionally celebrated with paper, and an original watercolour of the place you said "I do" is a meaningful way to mark it. It also makes a thoughtful present for:
- 💍 Newlyweds, as a wedding gift from family or the wedding party
- 📜 A first (paper) wedding anniversary
- 🥂 Milestone anniversaries, for couples who married at the venue years ago
- 🎁 Parents of the bride or groom, as a thank-you keepsake
- 🏡 Christmas, Valentine's Day or a birthday for the romantic in your life
